For your consideration, a set of toy soldiers from my Father-In-Law's large and varied collection, amassed and curated with love for over forty years. He will be sharing the collection exclusively on E-bay over the next few months, so stay tuned for more items like these.

This group of 7 running British Navy Sailors is W. These sets were only made from the turn of the last century until about 1941. Regarding age, the wording of the lettering on the bottom of the Petty Officer indicates he's from 1937-41. The other soldiers don't have any lettering on the bottoms, which either 1 places them MUCH earlier, 2 indicates that they're not W.

Britain, or 3 that the sailors were cast without the brand, because the petty officer had it. If you're a W. Britain expert and have insight, please share. Speaking of insight, I received info from a long-time collector who suspects the officer is post-WWII as he is wearing green leggings and has lighter facial painting.

I think this is curious, though, because my resource indicates the lettering on the bottom as characteristic of the1937-41 dates. Maybe he's been touched up? The box top is in great shape except for a small tear, and wear as shown in photos.

The box bottom has been replaced with a new W Britain box bottom. The soldiers are displayed on a cardboard support with a corrugated cardboard back. All arms move, and are attached as of this writing. The soldiers feature patina consistent with their age. They'd be a handsome addition to any collection.
