Who doesn't love a Cossack? Just try to photograph these soldiers without humming "Lara's Theme" from Dr. These fellows have put in a lot of miles--on the Steppes of Russia, or on the front steps of a child's home--either way, they show the patina of use. But they're still wonderful, even though the officer's sword arm is fused and one lancer's arm tends to fall off. They have paint loss typical of figures of their age; I tried to get it to show in the photos but you have to look carefully for the spots that most often show age--horse legs, swords, etc. As you can see from the photos, the set (from my father-in-law's collection) is 5 figures: four lancers and one officer with sword.

One of the best things about this set is the original, lovely Fred Whisstock box, which I believe places this set pre-WW2. The left side of the box top is missing and the box top is torn, but the artwork and signature are as great as ever! The pre-war issue and box make this set more valuable than post-war versions from what I can gather. In addition, the box bottom bears the stamp of Grant Bros. Of Croydon, a department store which at one time was considered among the best in London!

I try to donate a small portion of soldier sales to the DAV in honor of all who served. It's not much, but every little bit helps, I guess! Thank you for your interest in this lovely set.
