W Britains #201 OFFICERS OF THE GENERAL STAFF Pre-War, Whisstock Box! As you can see from the photos, the set (from my father-in-law's collection) is four colorful figures on horseback, representing a storied history. The soldiers look to be in wonderful shape--but I'm concerned that they may have been repainted.

I've enclosed a few photos, and will make a video about these fellows on my YouTube channel, My Executive Ranch, to help you evaluate. To me, the paint looks a bit thick, and several of the moving arms now don't move--I think because of the thick paint.

It's hard for me to believe that the ladies who painted and packed for W Britain back in the day would not get the arms moving before the soldiers went in the boxes, but I suppose you never know. I've taken photos of where I suspect the soldiers may have been touched up; if you're W Britain expert, please feel free to weigh in and help me find the correct price for these fellows! One of the best things about this set is the original, lovely Fred Whisstock box, which I believe places this set pre-WW2. The box top is torn, but the artwork and signature are as great as ever!

The pre-war issue and box make this set more valuable than post-war versions from what I can gather. In addition, the box bottom bears the stamp of Standard House /G Christiaensen Jr. / Antwerp which gives it a nice provenance. With these older and potentially valuable sets, it's sometimes hard to set a fair price. So it's good to be patient, but when I get close, I often find myself receiving quite a few offers, so if you really want a set, please try not to be "too" patient, so as not to be disappointed! I try to donate a small portion of soldier sales to the DAV in honor of all who served.

It's not much, but every little bit helps! Thank you for your interest in this lovely set. The item "W Britains #201 OFFICERS OF THE GENERAL STAFF Pre-War, Whisstock Box" is in sale since Monday, September 28, 2020. This item is in the category "Toys & Hobbies\Toy Soldiers\Pre-1970".
