Britains Ltd Cadbury's Cococub Walking JONATHAN Figure c. 1935
Britains Ltd Cadbury's Cococub "Walking" JONATHAN Figure c. This is a scarce Jonathan "walking" figure, he replaced the early version of Jonathan known by collectors as Fat Boy as he is a little chunky and was modelled eating a bar of Cadbury's chocolate. He has original paint which is in very decent condition. As grading is such a subjective issue please take a good look at my photos to evaluate condition - the photos serve as my description of the piece.
The following info is for viewers unfamiliar with Coco Cubs and is sourced from Wikipedia - Cococubs were a set of 32 hollowcast hand-painted lead figures of anthropomorphic creatures given away with Cadburys Bournville Cocoa from 1934 to 1939. They were designed by Ernest Aris, the well known illustrator of children's books. The promotion was a huge success, and within a few weeks of the campaign Cadburys ran out of supplies of both the drinking chocolate and the Cococubs - it took 2 months to get stocks replensihed! Some 300,000 children subsequently joined the Cococub Club, which issued a newspaper to its members together with badge and membership card.
