In a documented view of history, the "closing of the gate at Hougoumont" may have been the pivotal moment in condemning Bonaparte to his second period of exile, on Saint Helena, where he died 200 years ago today. The clever decision was made to let those French inside the courtyard stay there, but to shut the gate and barricade it so that further French could not assist.

The 30 or more French troops who had made it inside were duly slaughtered, except one small French Drummer boy, who the Troops left alive. As depicted in painting and sculpture, the door was a conventionally hinged affair, so that the struggle to close or open it at one point became a mass push-of-war between the Duke of Wellington's defenders and the Napoleonic attack.

Unpack carefully as foam/padding is tight and the odd piece like the gate overbeam is hidden in the polystyrene lid of inner. Due to the tight foam, the odd rifle/or extremity may be bent. Simply and gently ease back into place. The detail is fantastic, particularly on the inside where most of the action happened, and there is scope to have defenders on the walls firing out, plus struggle to close the gate, the capture of the Drummer Boy, and more. A fantastic diorama could be made using this set as a base.

Box has only light wear to it and in good to plus condition. I have more items like this, or similar, plus lots of other great products either already up, or coming soon.
