00082'27th Light Cavalry Madras' from the Delhi Durbar Collection - Special Collector's Edition. This boxed set is brand new - it has never been displayed.

This five-piece set comprises five mounted soldiers of the 27th Light Cavalry Madras, three mounted lancers, a mounted bugler and a mounted officer on brown horses. A magnificent site that would have wowed and enthused the crowds and assembled guests gathered from the great and the good of the Jewel in the Crown of the British Empire at the 1903 Delhi Durbar - see the short history further down this page. All five pieces are in excellent - mint - condition with no chips, dinks, paint flaking or any other visible damage, and have never been out of their box, except for photos today. This five-piece hand-painted set comes complete with its red original box which is also in excellent condition. In 1903 Lord Curzon and his beautiful American wife Lady Curzon organized the Delhi Durbar to celebrate the coronation of King Edward VII, and make it "the grandest pageant in history".

It was a great success and sensation at the time. Later in October 1903, Mortimer Menpes published a book entitled "Durbar, " which not only told the tale of his attending the Delhi Durbar, but also illustrated it in painstaking detail. From the pages of this wonderful book and the photographs of Gertrude Bell comes the inspiration for the Delhi Durbar range by W.

Described in Menpes' own words, here is the arrival of the Jaipur Elephant: a huge elephant hung with emerald-green and surrounded by mahouts clothed in crimson, loomed into sight. For two whole hours this band of colour circled round the arena. These sets and figures are based on the illustrations from Mortimer Menpes' book, Durbar.

Although new this 00082 boxed set was issued in 1999 - 24 years old. Comes complete with its original red box, which is also in excellent condition. The colours of each of the five pieces are bright and clear. There are no chips, cracks, paint flaking or any other visible damage.
