The Viceroy of India, Lord Curzon, organised the Durbar in Delhi at the beginning of 1903 to celebrate the Coronation of Edward VII, the new King of Great Britain and Emperor of India, to which all the States of India were invited to attend. The parade of the 48 state elephants was led by the Viceroy of India, Lord Curzon, seen here atop his elephant with his wife, the Vicereine, Lady Curzon sitting in the howdah, a servant holds an umbrella to protect her from the sun. The elephant is driven by a mahout sitting on the neck of the animal. This splendid elephant has 4 figures accompanying it and is packed in foam in its box.
Everything appears in excellent condition. Britain issued 5 elephants in their Delhi Durbar series of which this was the first. The figures are protected by a large amount of foam inside the box and the box will be well-protected inside the parcel.
