W Britain, Britains No. 2091 Rifle Brigade Rare & Wonderful

  

For your consideration, a set of toy soldiers from my Father-In-Law's large and varied collection, amassed and curated with love for over forty years. He will be sharing the collection exclusively on E-bay over the next few months, so stay tuned for more items like these.

This Rifle Brigade is W Britain set No. It consists of 7 soldiers with rifles, marching at trail, plus one officer with sword. It's quite a rare set from what I can tell. Almost no nicks in paint. NOTE: I do have several of these sets, this is the best one as far as I can tell. I'm not sure what to think of these fellows.

I found a set on Old Toy Soldier Auctions which was more elaborately painted, with bright green hatbands, dark green jackets, and black trousers. Other sets I've seen are like mine, with all-green outfits, plus dark belts and gloves. These soldiers were only made 1954-59, and I don't know whether the painting varied year on year, if the OTSY soldiers were touched up, or if mine were.

It's a great mystery, but the general consensus from most of the collectors who were kind enough to offer input is that this is 2091, although there are several sets that used this same mold. In any case, these rare soldiers would be a handsome addition to any collection. If you need a closer-up photo of something you're wondering about, feel free to let us know--we'll try to help!
